Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.

The fight currently going on between Tenzin, Kya, and Bumi is in some ways a lot like how I would have wanted the Tarrlok/Noatok revelation to have gone in season 1. Each sibling has their own biases; each sibling remembers the past differently. At first I wasn't thrilled with the idea of Aang not being a good parent to all of his kids, but it does make sense that he would throw all of his efforts and attention into his airbender child. Aang, more than anyone else in the whole world, knows what was lost by the destruction of the Air Nomads, and feels that loss more than anyone else. It's understandable that he would be more focused on preserving his culture than making sure his kids felt equally loved, especially when you consider that he didn't grow up in the kind of family unit that he had with Katara and the children.

Also, Kya is totally my favorite of the Kataang children. Rocking lady, she is.

I loved everything about Korra -- her struggle to understand the tensions between her two peoples, her attempts to play peacekeeper when she is not one by nature, her anger with her father and then her forgiveness/apology at the end. One of my favorite things about Korra from the beginning is how hard she tries. The girl is relentless and I love her for it.

I'm really not enjoying Bolin and Eska. If he hadn't had such a rough time in book 1, maybe it'd be funny, but considering his heart got crushed in book 1, seeing him suffering more in book 2 is painful, not funny. (Seeing Mako give him advice on how to break up with girls was, though. Dear Mako: You never actually broke up with Asami.)

I had other thoughts, but I'm home with family for the weekend, so they've kind of flown out of my mind. But all in all, I enjoyed this episode a LOT more than the premiere, and I'm legitimately excited for next week.

I totally agree with you about the siblings, although I'm a little surprised that none of the kids even mentioned their mom and the way she treated them. You'd think that she at least would have tried to make up for Aang's apparent negligence. Instead, she's just treated kind of like a burden by Kya, which I really didn't like. I do think that their arguments seemed very real. I've heard my own parents talk that way about their families and their upbringing. I have an estranged uncle whose impression of their childhood was neglect, an opinion none of the rest of the kids share.

Kya is awesome though.

And I feel so bad for Korra. She is trying her absolute best but this is just too big for her and her current life experience. She really does need Tenzin, or at least someone who can be neutral in the situation.

I was kind of excited for Bolin and Eska until I saw the way that it was executed. :((( Bolin really deserves a partner who will actually appreciate him.

I want to know what the deal is with Ikki. She doesn't seem like the type of person to just run away.

You know, a lot of things are kind of weird with Katara. I can actually believe that none of them really mention Katara's treatment of them, since they're all focused on the fight about their dad. But I'm wondering where she is for all this civil war stuff. She's the wife of the past Avatar; she's the waterbending master of the current Avatar; she helped save the world and rebuild the Southern Water Tribe. You'd think she'd get involved in the war. Like, if they were going to have this whole Water Tribe civil war plotline, they really should have put Katara on the trip with Tenzin and the others to explain why she's not involved. Because as it is, it makes no fucking sense whatsoever.

Oh man, seriously! How helpful would Katara be in this whole mess? Even if the Water Tribes still struggle with their sexism (which seems likely to me), she could have some kind of a voice in this... and it's completely unlike her to not be involved.
