This episode was doing so well. SO WELL.

Legend of Korra is definitely better watched with a friend. My roommate had missed the past two weeks, so we watched the last three episodes together and spent the entire time laughing about Verrick as Stephen Colbert. It was great.

But this week's episode...

Honestly, my main thought about this episode?

SKY BISON BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They justified the existence of this episode. I mean, I liked the rest of the episode, but. Come on. Sky bison babies.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.

I had other thoughts, but I'm home with family for the weekend, so they've kind of flown out of my mind. But all in all, I enjoyed this episode a LOT more than the premiere, and I'm legitimately excited for next week.
talibusorabat: An animated older woman giving a "wtf?" shrug (Avatar: Korra da fuck?)
I still need to rewatch it... I think that I'll appreciate it more on the rewatch. There were a lot of things in book 1 that I hated at first and then ended up liking when I rewatched it. (Same goes for pretty much the entire third season of Avatar: The Last Airbender)

But as a first impression? I was pretty underwhelmed. spoilers )

Overall, my thoughts are: Thank God for fanfic. But I still can't wait for next week. Love is blind.
talibusorabat: A young cartoon woman gets ready to fight with fire (Avatar: Korra feel the fire)
Which is funny, because I never really throw up ever, even when sick. But that's how I'm feeling about the return of Legend of Korra on Friday.

I have such strong feelings about book 1....as do many other people. Happiness, excitement, anger, disappointment. I'm nervous about whether book 2 will fix some of the problems from book 1, or if it will just make more. I'm nervous about fandom's reaction too. I haven't been a proper part of a proper fandom since my early years in college; it's actually really scary, being around that much intense emotion, even if it's just words on a screen.

(And, yeah, I've developed a lot of headcanon about Korra during this past year that is going to get so very, very jossed.)

But. BUT. As scary as it is, I'm excited too. Because that trailer is gorgeous and spirits and Korra and Jinora and hope. There is always hope.

Now if only I had cable!!!! Come on, Amazon and/or iTunes! Let me preorder my season pass!

(Tangentially, am I the only one concerned about Korra being moved to Friday nights? My understanding is that's not a very good timeslot. Hopefully I'm wrong about that. I'd hate for the network to be trying to tank the series.)

On the flip side, I am stupid happy with this chapter. Needs hella revising, but it was such a beautiful breeze to write.

talibusorabat: Spock finds this highly illogical (TOS: Highly illogical)
I've just been eaten alive by other social networking sites and what appears to be an inability to write more than a few sentences at a time.

Regular blogging will commence in July when the Legend of Korra boxset comes out. I'm planning to do a post about each episode as I rewatch AND do my own commentary on the special features. Because. Why not.

Until then, be well!

Among many, many other things I'm failing at. But another piece of the crossover I'm theoretically working on.

Each Sunday, post six sentences from a writing project -- published, submitted, in progress, for your cat -- whatever.

"I don't understand why you're so bad at this," Ikki said with her usual tact, and yelped when Jinora kicked her. "What?"

"Maybe if you think about it like water," Jinora said, shooting a glare at her little sister.

"But it's air," Korra said. "They're two completely different elements."

"Jinora's right," Taya said. "Perhaps if you focused on how air is similar to water, you can connect to it."

"My mother was killed when I was very small," Asami said quietly. "By a couple of Triple Threats looking to make a name for themselves."

"I'm sorry," Korra said, not sure what else she could say.

Asami shrugged it off. "Gangs are a real problem here," she said. "Mako and Bolin lost their parents to a gang too. And like it or not, most gang members are benders."
