This episode was doing so well. SO WELL.

But Korra with amnesia? Are you fucking kidding me?!??!?!?!

I'm just.... I'm boggled. Absolutely boggled. Isn't it general knowledge at this point that amnesia plotlines are ridiculous and stupid and generally awful? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!

I'm probably angrier about this than I should be, but it's like, I've been forgiving a lot of shitty writing this book, and this is what I get? (Yes, entitled fan, yada yada yada.)


I liked the rest of the episode, overall. I thought the Masami bit was handled really well -- especially considering the nature of their breakup, it makes sense to me that Asami would kiss Mako in a moment of vulnerability, after he says something really sweet and she already knows he broke up with Korra. Plus, she wasn't trying to get back together with him. She apologized; he was awkward; that kind of stuff happens sometimes between ex-partners.

I have mixed feelings about Bolin. I like that he's kind of acting out -- that we see the resentment he feels over Mako basically leaving him to the wolves when it comes to Eska. But his treatment of Ginger makes me really uncomfortable. I know that the writers are going for a "Bolin can't separate acting from reality" thing, but we're not actually seeing much on-screen chemistry between him and Ginger. We're not seeing any "now she loves him; now she doesn't" moments. What we're seeing is Ginger repeatedly telling Bolin "I am not interested in you" and Bolin repeatedly pursuing her anyway, even going so far as to kiss her when that's not written in the script. This is not the Bolin who backed off when Korra made it clear she was interested in Mako; this is not the Bolin who didn't go "You owe me your love because we had a great date." He was such an amazing example of how to be classy in love, and now he's the victim of domestic abuse, a creepy coworker, and we're supposed to find all of it funny.

It makes me really sad. At the same time, I spent a lot of the episode laughing because he is so funny when he isn't being creepy, and Verrick is really funny when he's not being evil.
