I've just been eaten alive by other social networking sites and what appears to be an inability to write more than a few sentences at a time.

Regular blogging will commence in July when the Legend of Korra boxset comes out. I'm planning to do a post about each episode as I rewatch AND do my own commentary on the special features. Because. Why not.

Until then, be well!

Spent pretty much this entire morning cleaning up my Pinboard account. All the articles are tagged, the bulk of them have descriptions, and created tag bundles! Oh, sweet, beautiful tag bundles!

It makes me stupid happy.

PS -- if you're looking for fanfic recs, I've got a bunch of them up there.

A human is a system for converting dust billions of years ago into dust billions of years from now via a roundabout process which involves checking email a lot.

XKCD speaks truth.

Someday I'll update this thing again. My life these days basically consists of work and RP. Getting me to do anything else is an uphill battle I've been too lazy to fight. But someday.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] adelheide over on Livejournal is a maker of amazing gorgeous jewelry.

Honey Dew, $5

Midnight Aqua, $10

She's also one of the many, many people fucked over by Congress and this fiscal cliff bullshit. Her rent is due and right now jewelry sales are her only hope of paying it.

She has an Etsy store, [etsy.com profile] SkyBlueRoseCreations, and even more pieces on sale at her Livejournal. Check her out and spread the word!

But life gets in the way, what with suddenly starting the process of moving out of my current apartment and work being a maelstrom of chaos.

So instead, have some quotes.

You know in folk tales, evil has to play by the rules but good can cheat.

Nalo Hopkinson

Part of the male gaze is the shock that the female gaze exists.

Sarah Rees Brennan

UFOs are the fairy tales of our modern world.

Malinda Lo

Cultural relativism is understanding the logic behind a culture from its perspective. It's not about making it okay but understanding how it happens.

Marie Brennan

Every story is situated in conversation with the ones that came before it.

Fandom is high speed folklore.

Marie Brennan

Copyright has turned originality into a greater virtue than it used to be.

The West has influence everywhere, but we don't take back in equal measure. The flow of culture is not even.

If you have the means and any interest in A) books B) fantasy C) fandom and/or D) social justice, you should definitely consider coming. Next year is our 5th year, and so the theme is "reunion". We're bringing back the themes from the past 4 years -- warriors, fairies, monsters, and retellings.

It's definitely not a cheap conference, but they're currently working on scholarships to get more people of color and international citizens.

While the queer representation is pretty good, it can always be better. I was really excited to hear talking about asexuality and people actually knowing what it is, but it would be great to have some (open) representation. And there was a discussion on gender identity and presentation that would have benefited a lot from genderqueer voices.

So join us next year if you can! If you click this link before November 1st, you'll get a (very slight) discount on registration.

talibusorabat: Let's just sit quietly and think about how ridiculous that statement was (Quotes: Ridiculous Statement)
I got an email from a young woman that consisted of nothing more than an attachment and the subject line "Crew position." Usually I ignore these kinds of things, but this time I responded & said that we don't consider resumes that don't come with some kind of cover letter, and it's generally good policy to introduce yourself and explain why you're interested in the position.

Dear arts schools: Teach your students how to apply for jobs. You're not doing anybody -- ESPECIALLY YOUR STUDENTS -- any favors if you don't.

But all is well. I'm currently sitting in Portland airport, waiting to meet up with all the other folks attending Sirens. I am going to spend the next four days gorging on books and it's going to be glorious. I'm already off to a pretty good start. I read The Dark Wife on the plane (verdict: extreme dislike, which merits its own entry), and will be plowing through more of the thus far delightful The Palace of Illusions once I wrap up some more things for work.

If any of y'all are looking for pretty icons (especially for RP purposes), check out [personal profile] not_as_it_is's icon journal, [personal profile] tragicallybadart.

Mostly, you should check out Crystal Kay. And how adorably expressive she is.

I forget sometimes that being active on plurk is not the same thing as being active on Dreamwidth.

Lots of things coming up and on the horizon -- [community profile] originalbigbang, [community profile] polybigbang, and [community profile] dark_agenda -- but for now, I just want to say that I've been reading some amazing Garak/Bashir fanfic and you should too.

talibusorabat: A classical drawing of a woman with a giant cat in the background "GIANT CAT" (Giant Cat)
But that's okay, because I finally realized Google chrome lets me create different profiles so I can have my personal Gmail and my work Gmail open at the same time, as opposed to having both Chrome and that piece of shit Safari open. It also means I don't have to log in and out of my various Tumblrs, because I suck at Tumblr.

Best part? Each profile gets an icon. So my personal profile is a puppy and my work profile is a ninja.

Every time I feel like killing something today, I just look at my profile icons and go ".........I love the internet."
