IDK, I think perhaps I am especially cynical tonight, but the entirety of this chapter just made me sad. Fanny's intense gratitude when Edmund finally remembers her is understandable but tragic.

Bah. This is not a night for meta thoughts.

Especially with her already being pitiable. She wouldn't be as grateful if she felt able to stand up for herself, or that she even should stand up for herself. Edmund forgetting her has the double cut of someone she loves disregarding her and the only person who sees she has worth disregarding her. Except for William of course, but he's almost never present.
