social network overload

I just want Pinterest's interface with Pinboard's tagging capability, and for that to somehow magically merge with Tumblr. I hate having things spread out like this. Pinboard is the best for organization, but it's ugly and really not good for organizing pictures. Pinterest has a gorgeous interface, but it's only good for certain types of organizing, and I really don't understand how its tagging system works. Tumblr is almost like a hybrid of them both (albeit one predating both), but it's not as pretty as Pinterest and its tagging system is not nearly as nice as Pinboard.

Perhaps because for so long Livejournal was my only social networking site, I'm really not comfortable with being scattered across so many social networks & bookmarking sites. But there's no elegant way to consolidate them that I can find. There are plenty of ways to consolidate posting to most of them, but no way to consolidate reading them.

Meh. I'm all kinds of mentally overloaded right now. I'm really looking forward to disconnecting from work and the internet entirely when I head to Japan with [personal profile] yinza.

In the meantime, I'm curious - what social networking/bookmarking sites are you on, and how do you manage them? Do you use a specific site for a specific purpose?

Social networking is so complicated.

I have a personal DW where I do the haphazard life recording that I do. And crosspost that to LJ.

I have a Pinboard where I save all of the links relevant to my life, fandom and nonfandom, and I have a Pinboard just for fic recs.

Tumblr is for pictures. Sometimes pictures get reposted to Plurk if they are amazing.

Plurk is for small stuff that used to go on Twitter. I really only keep Twitter because it's the only way to get ahold of one of my IRL friends.

I occasionally read and never post on Facebook.

There are just so many places to put things. And I'm not the type of person to crosspost very much, either.

I've just been using AO3's bookmarks for fics, but I have been contemplating moving them to Pinboard since the tagging system is so much nicer. Hmmm....

But yeah, seriously, too many places. And I can't really dump any of the places because certain people are only at certain places. =_=

I haven't ever touched AO3's bookmarks, mostly out of laziness. I imported my fic recs right from Delicious, where they've been from teh start.

Yeeeeeeah, that's really the problem, sadly.

Heh, I hadn't really been reading any fic at all until I joined AO3.

Oh jeez, tell me about it. I haven't really checked out those new places yet, but I have a tumblr (princerasiel) and a facebook, and a twitter, and a deviantart, but to be honest this and facebook are the only ones I check with regularity. Even then, I get burnout, jump to one of the others, and then cycle through them again. I haven't touched my twitter in months. I use FB all the time because that's where most of my friends are, but I want to post all my photos and ramblings and anything I want to remember to here, because it's permanent in a way that all of those other sites are not. My twitter is overloaded with information and things I can't even keep up with, so it's fallen by the wayside. My DA I sort of forgot about because I hardly draw anymore, but I really liked how it updates you and lets you sort everything. I feel like I just follow anything else because I don't want to lose touch, but... *sigh*

Don't even get me started on plurk.

Oh lord, yes. That's the only reason I haven't deleted my Facebook account. I never use it; I absolutely detest the user interface, but it's the only way to keep up with certain people I love dearly, so I'm stuck with it. Argh!

YES! I was the same way about FB actually, but then... most of my cosplay friends happened to use it. And a good friend I met ten years ago. And I started using it more and more, but I REALLY wish they would all move here. T_T I mean, once a conversation has scrolled on that site, good luck getting back to it. There's no way to feel nostalgic at all. And then they update the way it works every month or so and it pisses me off :(

Pinboard? I have no idea how anyone manages social networking at all. I'm always floundering.

Fffffffft I feel like it manages me more than I manage it. xD
