talibusorabat: A cartoon mythological creature and the caption "Facepalm" (Avatar: *Face Palm*)
Aang, along with his true love Katara and her brother Sokka

It shouldn't bug me as much as it does, since it's all relational. It's not like they went "Aang, his true love Katara, and lone watertribe warrior Sokka". Philosophical questions like "is there such a thing as 'true love'" aside, it's also completely true.

But LAWD it is grating on me.

Between this and the minorest of spoilers ), I am reminded why I fucking hate advertising. Not hate as in "WHY DOES ALL ADVERTISING SUCK? WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE GOOD ADVERTISING, GAWD!" More like "Oh, hey there, advertising. OH, LOOK, THERE'S SOMEONE I HAVE TO SPEAK TO! /leaves quickly before getting sucked into horrifically awkward conversation".

You just have such a small space to tease such complex stories. Ensemble shows get reduced to one central character and their satellites; ambiguous conflicts are made black and white. It's just doing its job.
